****** Annual Tour 2022 ******
This year's Annual Tour took place between Friday 20th May and Sunday 22nd May. This was the first tour since 2019 which was based at Weston-Super-Mare. Due to Covid restrictions in 2020 and 2021 no tour had been organised. Below is a report from Ian Broxton. Great photographs were taken by John Beacham and some added by Shaun Jervis of Jervis Coaches. MK
28 of us set off from Pentyrch Rugby Club car park at 9:00 am sharp for a great weekend in Torquay. We were based at the Victoria Hotel part of the TLH Resort company which also runs the Derwent Hotel next door, where a previous tour had stayed. The hotel was very good; rooms were fine, food lovely and the staff were great.
We played two matches in Torquay. On Friday, we played against King's Bowling Club located on the sea front and on Saturday, we played against Torquay Bowling Club, not quite so close to the sea but very conveniently only two minutes' walk from the hotel. We came second in both matches but had an enjoyable time.
On Sunday, on the journey home, we played against GB Britton Bowls Club in Bristol. The club was fantastic. What a welcome! A beautiful buffet, far more than we could eat and a really friendly atmosphere on a wonderful green (second again). Thanks to Captain Ali and his team. Hopefully, they will come to Pentyrch next year for a return friendly match.
We finished the tour with a visit to my daughter's pub, The Globe Inn, Frampton Cotterell where we all enjoyed a lavish meal before returning home to Pentyrch around 9;30 pm.
I would like to thank my organising team, Mel and Margaret Ellmes, Eileen for rounding up the rams and of course to Shaun Jervis of Jervis Coaches, for driving us safely all weekend.
I am looking forward to the 2023 tour. Ian Broxton May 2022
