Competitions 2024

Day One - Saturday 14th

This year's finals were to have been held over Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September. A much smaller field of entries meant that there were only four competitions - The Novices' Shield, The Men's Singles, The Men's Pairs and the Mixed Pairs. Unfortunately, The Novices' Shield was postponed due to illness of one of the finalists.
The Men's Singles was contested between last year's champion, Iain Russell and Mark Krawiecki. On an unusually sunny afternoon, current champion retained his title for a third successive year. Congratulations to Iain and commiserations to Mark. Thanks to Paul Cooper for organising, Brian Ilbery for marking, Margaret Krawiecka as Umpire, Gordon Tucker for the pictures, Eileen Boddington for the catering and especially to the spectators for their generous support.

Day 2 Sunday 15th

A colder and cloudier day heralded the second day of Finals Weekend, with the Mixed Pairs first, followed by the Men's Pairs. A few hardy and dedicated spectators came to encourage the players who were grateful for their support .
A close and entertaining match was contested in the mixed match with Chris Locke and Nicola Olson  coming through as new champions over runners-up, Adrian Bevan and Anne Lowndes.
The increasing autumnal breeze and scudding clouds welcomed, Iain Russell and Mark Krawiecki and Barrie Thomas and Keith Davies to contest the Men's Pairs Final for the Keith Capron Trophy. Iain Russell and Mark Krawiecki proved too strong for their opponents finishing as champions. Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the runners-up.

Thanks again to the organisers, officials, caterers, photographers (joint effort) the players and supporters for this year's championships.

Day 3 Saturday 21st

Finals for the year were concluded with the postponed Novices' Shield Final between Jordan Napper and Andrew Herbert. On a damp and blustery day, the match went ahead after some last minute removal of worm casts and blown leaves. It was a close and engrossing match with Jordan emerging as the winner. Congratulations to Jordan and well done to Andrew for making a great attempt at stopping Jordan. Thanks to Margaret Krawiecka as Umpire, Eileen Boddington for marking, Paul Cooper for organising and photos and to the loyal supporters, especially to Ken Lynham who attended all of this year's finals.
