It was a great honour for me to have been elected President of the Welsh Private    Greens Bowling Association, Eastern Section for the year  2006, thank you.

I know Charles Ayres the 2007 President feels similarly honoured

So we know Keith Russell from the Pontyclun Club will be similarly honoured to be our President for 2008 and we extend our best wishes to him, may he enjoy every minute.

The Past Presidents all thank you who supported us, Clubs and individuals. .

The notion that the President has nothing to do but attend functions while eating and drinking at other peoples expense is far from the truth. I have had a very busy schedule because in addition to the above fixtures we also had Association games including the London & Southern Counties tourists who regained the "Croeso Cup".

In addition, in my capacity as Asst Secretary to the WPGBA Council, I am the person responsible for the Vice Presidents Association fixtures, 3 games have been arranged for the forthcoming season. I trust you will support those fixtures.  I must mention that we have a few vacancies and I would be delighted to bestow the chevron on you, I regard the V Ps Association as a way of putting something back into the game we all love.

I thank you for continued interest in the affairs of Pentyrch B C and the Welsh Private Greens.

President of Council next year will be from the West the nominee is Bill Robbins from the Port Talbot Club. Bill is a fine lead with the Port Talbot Club

The Committee spent a lot of time judging the merits of complaints from member Clubs regarding the postponing or cancelling of fixtures and of playing recognised first team players in the PG2 tournament, sadly we have been unable to come up with an acceptable, workable solution.

However there were some plusses! We have some excellent young bowlers coming through, Champion, Paul Taylor of Bridgend being just one, Penhill, Pontyclun and Ystradfechan each have a nice crop as do several other clubs, with maybe just one or two starlets. We must hang in there to provide the structure they deserve.

I wish all bowlers the Compliments of the Season and an excellent 2008 campaign

We all wish Keith Russell, the 2008 President a successful and enjoyable season.

Honorary Vice Presidents Association

The Honorary Vice Presidents Association have three fixtures confirmed for 2008
Thurs  June 12th  at Rhiwbina BC   v Rhiwbina
Monday  July 7th  at Murch BC  v Cardiff Masonic BA
Friday   August 15th  at Brynhyfryd BC  v WBAVP BA

The Eastern Section travelled to Swansea BC for the East v West fixture with the Gwalia Cup at stake!
Unfortunately we were not a match for them, losing 4-2 in rinks and 25 shots in total.
The presentation of the cup was an anti climax....not for the first time, ...the cup was not available!
Albert Beaven presented a token cup to his counterpart, Gwyn Rees!

Honorary Vice Presidents Association

Honorary Vice Presidents played an honourable draw  at Rhiwbina, (only narrowly losing by a couple of shots) Next  fixture with Cardiff Masonic B A at Murch

Rain just prior to the game, caused the cancellation of the Cardiff Masonic BA Fixture . A massive disappointment Next  fixture with Pontyclun B C to help celebrate their 75th anniversary.

A great game, another honourable draw ( we won on 4 rinks) Again the top rink was Mike Crabb, Bill Monington, Ron Resoli and Ray Wilshire as was at Rhiwbina!  Dai-Sam Davies, Barry Athletic, presided and said how pleased he was to partake in such a splendid game, he thanked both his own organisation and Pontyclun B C for their efforts, and trusted Pontyclun would go on for another 75 years!

Quiz Question: The collective noun for a number of bowlers is............?  A "Wood " or possibly a "Bias"  I prefer the latter
